Lee Chang-dong's 'Possible Love' wins Grand Jury Prize at Venice Film Festival

Lee Chang-dong's film 'Possible Love' emerged victorious at the Venice Film Festival, securing the prestigious Silver Lion Grand Jury Prize on Saturday. This marks the second time a Korean movie has claimed the award at the world's oldest film festival, following Kim Ki-duk's Golden Lion win with 'Pieta' in 2012. For Lee, this marks a long-awaited closure to his persistent pursuit of a Venice accolade; he previously won the Silver Lion for Best Director in 1998 with 'Oasis'.

'Possible Love', Lee's first film since 2018's 'Burning', was widely anticipated as a leading favorite. The movie presents an unconventional narrative, focusing on the chance meeting between two couples, brought together through a documentary project. Sul Kyung-gu plays Ho-seok, a factory worker left unemployed, while Jeon Do-yeon portrays his wife Mi-ok, both grappling with the repercussions of a violent police action against labor activists.
