Lanier rushing attack overpowers Jefferson in district opener

Lanier's rushing attack proved too powerful for Jefferson in their District 14-5A-II opener on Friday, Sept. 11, 2026. Senior running back Nicholas Torres led the way with 131 rushing yards and a touchdown in the first half as the Voks defeated Jefferson 31-14. Torres continued his strong performance in the second half, finishing with a 1-yard touchdown run and a 17-6 lead with under two minutes left in the third quarter.

Sophomore quarterback Erick Esparza added a 1-yard rushing touchdown and a 43-yard touchdown run, helping the Voks maintain a 24-14 advantage going into halftime. Jefferson fought back with a 6-yard rushing touchdown from senior running back Michael Bejar during a lightning delay, but the Mustangs were unable to recover and finished the game with a 31-14 loss.
