Kioni fires up Matiang’i 2027 bid, says he must be on ballot

Jubilee Party Deputy Leader Jeremiah Kioni has endorsed former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i's intention to run for President in 2027, insisting the opposition candidate must be on the ballot. Kioni relayed this message during a meeting with Jubilee aspirants in Ndaragwa Constituency, Nyandarua County, where he noted the aspirants' unanimous backing for Matiang’i.

In a statement published on his X account on September 12, 2026, Kioni emphasized the aspirants' determination for Matiang’i to contest the presidency, asserting that the country needed a real opportunity to change direction. Kioni criticized efforts to destabilize the opposition by labeling politicians as "moles," urging leaders to unite based on issues, ideas, and solutions rather than personalities.

He highlighted the 2027 election as an opportunity to address critical national concerns like the economy, jobs, education, healthcare, the cost of living, agriculture, and the well-being of Kenyan families. Kioni's support for Matiang’i comes as opposition parties grapple with selecting a unified presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 polls, with discussions ongoing about the financial capability of opposition parties to conduct a nomination process.
