Kebbi MIWA leadership crisis deepens as Nigerian Legion backs new coordinator

The leadership turmoil within the Military Widows Association of Nigeria (MIWA) in Kebbi State has intensified, with the Kebbi State Council of the Nigerian Legion endorsing Hajiya Maryam Isah Garba as the new coordinator. Ahmad Shehu, the State Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, declared that Garba was recognized as the legitimate leader following an election conducted according to instructions from the national Legion leadership.

Kanoma, the former coordinator, contested the election but was unsuccessful, garnering fewer votes. Garba's ascent to power was met with criticism from Kanoma, who alleged that 45 widows were ousted from a military barracks in Birnin Kebbi. However, the Nigerian Legion refuted this number, stating that only seven individuals were impacted.

Shehu further suggested that the new MIWA leadership is aligned with the Kauran Gwandu political movement and supports Governor Nasir Idris. Garba affirmed that the Kebbi chapter would proceed according to the directives of the national Legion leadership and acknowledged the support of the national body for the Kauran Gwandu administration.

Both Garba and Shehu urged the public to acknowledge her as the new state coordinator and to disregard claims that Kanoma remains in charge.
