KDN bakal umum tarikh kuat kuasa pindaan kewarganegaraan anak lahir luar negara

Kementerian Dalam Negeri (KDN) is set to announce the date when the power to confer Malaysian citizenship to children born outside the country to Malaysian mothers will become fully operational, following completion of all necessary preparations. Preparation includes gathering relevant documents, nationality regulations and online application systems, which will involve Malaysia's representation offices worldwide.

The date will be declared by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong after finalizing administrative matters. All preparation tasks have been completed at the ministerial level, including document and nationality regulation preparations. Confirmation has also been received from the Attorney General's Department. The preparation will also entail setting up an online application system, as its implementation will involve Malaysia's representation offices across the country, he told reporters during a joint ministerial program.

He said implementing the naturalization will be expected to greatly alleviate the burden on Malaysian mothers who have been waiting for years to naturalize their children born outside the country. Saifuddin said out of the approximately 50,000 high-priority naturalization applications that were pending, around 7,000 were related to children born outside the country who need to be linked to a Malaysian mother.

Out of these 7,000, now only a few dozen remain undecided as the processing of long-standing applications continues while waiting for this power to take effect. He said after the power takes effect and new applications open, the processing for the relevant category will be carried out according to the new rules. Meanwhile, KDN continues to work on finalizing the remaining 4,121 naturalization applications out of the original 50,000 high-priority applications, with a target to complete all by the end of the year.

He said the four main categories that account for the high number of applications are under Article 15A, Article 15(2), Article 19(1) and Article 30(1) of the Federal Constitution.
