Jaffer on making Gaikwad captain for IND A One-Day games: ‘Patidar also deserves…’

India A will face Australia A in a One-Day match later this month. Former cricketer Wasim Jaffer has voiced his opinion that Rajat Patidar should also be considered for captaincy. Patidar, who led Royal Challengers Bengaluru to back-to-back titles in 2025, has been named captain of India A for the upcoming ODI series. Jaffer acknowledges that Gaikwad's seniority is a factor in his selection, as he has been a regular in the India A squad.

However, Jaffer believes that Patidar and Ishan Kishan, who recently won the Duleep Trophy with the East Zone, also deserve a chance at the captaincy. Jaffer suggests that while Gaikwad's seniority is an advantage, Patidar and Kishan have better credentials. He is not concerned that the players would mind the decision. Gaikwad's captaincy has been marked by some issues, including injuries and player availability, but Jaffer thinks his batting form is the main concern.

Jaffer also speculates that Sanju Samson could be a strong choice to captain IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings, suggesting it would be a tough call but ultimately a good one.
