Ivan Toney puts midweek bust-up behind him after scoring third double in row for Al Ahli against Al Hazem

Ivan Toney discarded memories of a recent disagreement with teammates, as the Al Ahli striker scored his third consecutive double for the club in a 3-1 victory against Al Hazem in Jeddah. The reigning Asian champions had previously lost 3-2 to Al Qadsiah in the Saudi Pro League on Tuesday, an event that saw Toney clash with Mohammed Abdulrahman and Merih Demiral, as well as vent frustration at the referee.

Ahli manager Marino Pusic believed the incidents were merely "natural things that happen between players," which could help boost the team's spirits following their third defeat in six Singapore Premier League (SPL) games. Indeed, Toney's efforts proved instrumental in Al Ahli's turnaround, especially considering they trailed early after Ahmed Al Nakhli put Al Hazem ahead in the second minute.

However, Al Ahli quickly reclaimed control by scoring three consecutive goals before halftime. The leveller arrived in the 21st minute when Al Hazem's full-back Abdullah Al Shanqiti gifted possession to Eduard Spertsyan, who promptly found Toney who slotted past the goalkeeper for his second goal of the season. Further sloppy defending resulted in Al Ahli taking the lead through a penalty in the 32nd minute, with Toney converting with ease.

The third goal arrived shortly before halftime when Saleh Abu Al Shamat's shot was saved, leaving Toney to tap in the ball, completing a hat-trick of consecutive doubles for the top scorer of the SPL with 10 goals from seven games.
