India’s Modi and China’s Xi push business links, border peace as ties revive

New Delhi witnessed a meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping, during which they expressed their commitment to resolving their countries' disputed border. Xi's visit to India was his first since 2019 and marked a significant step in the cautious thaw between the nuclear-armed rivals. The two leaders emphasized the need to observe existing agreements and understandings regarding border-related issues.

Despite the progress, the underlying territorial dispute remains unresolved, with both nations maintaining heavy military deployments along their roughly 3,500-kilometre border in Tibet. The meeting also focused on trade, with China being India's largest trading partner. However, India's trade deficit with China stood at a record $112 billion, highlighting the imbalance in economic relations.
