'India’s Electoral Process Among World’s Most Transparent': CEC Gyanesh Kumar

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has praised India's electoral process as among the most transparent in the world. Speaking at a "Interaction with Booth Level Officers" programme at Gujarat University, Kumar highlighted that verification is carried out continuously from the preparation of electoral rolls to the counting of votes.

He emphasized that political parties, candidates, and their agents verify each stage, ensuring the credibility of the process. Kumar stressed that every eligible Indian citizen who has turned 18 should be included in the electoral rolls, and the Election Commission conducts regular revisions to maintain the accuracy and purity of these rolls.

The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process involves BLOs visiting voters' homes to verify details and ensure that young people who have turned 18 are enrolled. During polling, EVMs and VVPAT machines undergo mock tests in the presence of candidates' polling agents, and post-polling, the EVM results are verified in the presence of agents.

Kumar urged BLOs to remain active and regularly check electoral rolls in their areas, emphasizing the importance of enrolling young voters. The CEC also highlighted India's chairmanship of the International IDEA, an organization comprising major democracies, reflecting global recognition of India's free and fair electoral system.
