IMF has been out against NDC for some time; we must call them to order – Dafeamekpor

Majority Chief Whip Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor has issued a stern warning to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), accusing the Fund of encroaching on Ghana's internal affairs by commenting on the politicization of board appointments at State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs). Speaking on Citi FM, Dafeamekpor emphasized the importance of Ghana adhering to its constitutional and legal processes in the selection of SOE boards.

"The IMF has been against the NDC for some time now, and I think it's time we remind them of their place. They are way out of line," he stated. Dafeamekpor's comments were in response to an IMF Technical Assistance Report from July 2026, which raised concerns about political interference in the appointment of boards and senior executives of major state enterprises.

In defense of the government's stance, Dafeamekpor argued that political affiliation should not automatically disqualify qualified individuals from serving on public boards, provided they have the requisite skills and experience. He cited the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) leadership as an example of how political backgrounds can still result in effective leadership when complemented by necessary expertise.

The Majority Chief Whip further accused the IMF of exceeding its mandate by meddling in Ghana's internal governance arrangements. "They are venturing into our internal politics, and I believe that as a supranational organization, that is not their role," he expressed.
