If Anwar’s govt failed, Umno failed too, says Amanah sec-gen

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi recently criticized unity government leaders, including Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, during his policy speech at the Umno general assembly. Amanah secretary-general Faiz Fadzil argued that if Umno deemed the Anwar government weak, it would also be admitting its own failure, as the party is part of the coalition government.

Faiz emphasized that assessing the Anwar administration's performance should be done collectively, given the government's coalition nature. He pointed to positive data on foreign direct investment, the ringgit's performance, economic growth, and the Corruption Perceptions Index, highlighting the Anwar government's achievements compared to previous administrations.

Faiz cited the government's successful payment of RM19 billion in GST refunds, which had been increased under the previous Barisan Nasional government. He cautioned Umno against destabilizing statements that could undermine political stability, as the party has claimed to be committed to until the end of the current term. Faiz also suggested that the Pakatan Harapan (PH) party should prepare for the possibility that the Barisan Nasional (BN) may not cooperate with them in the next general election, citing the recent state elections in Johor and Negeri Sembilan as a reminder to strengthen their own machinery.
