‘I was taken out of context’ — Datti Baba-Ahmed reacts to interview backlash

Former Labour Party vice-presidential candidate Datti Baba-Ahmed has spoken out on Friday about the backlash he received following an interview on television. He clarified that his remarks about the presidential candidates for the 2027 general elections were taken out of context. During the interview, Baba-Ahmed stated that none of the candidates, including his former campaign partner Peter Obi, could improve Nigeria.

However, the interviewer kept asking questions that diverted his focus from his main point. Baba-Ahmed explained that the interviewer, Seun, asked him what advice he would give to President Tinubu. He responded that Tinubu should prepare to hand over power for fairness and not to give Atiku Abubakar an undue advantage. Due to time constraints and stress, Baba-Ahmed said he responded affirmatively to the question about Peter Obi as well.

This was what Nigerians interpreted as Baba-Ahmed claiming that Peter Obi couldn't improve Nigeria, which led to the backlash he faced.
