Gempa bermagnitud 6.5 dekat Jakarta, gegaran dirasai di Jawa, Sumatera

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.5 struck near Jakarta early Saturday morning, causing tremors to be felt in Indonesia, Java, and Sumatera. According to the head of the Seismology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Wijayanto, the earthquake occurred at 4:23 am local time. The center of the earthquake was located in the Java Sea, 69km east of the Seribu Islands off Jakarta, at a depth of 368km. The model predicts that this earthquake was caused by intraslab activity, and there are no tsunami warnings.

The strongest shaking from the earthquake was reported in Banten and West Java, as well as Tanggamus in southern Sumatera. The shaking was strong enough to rattle windows and cause doors to swing. It was also clearly felt in houses and could cause doors and windows to swing in Jakarta's Tanjung Priok and other areas. However, the shaking was less intense in Yogyakarta, Malang in Java, and Padang and Mentawai Islands in western Sumatera.

Among the areas reporting the strongest shaking was Pandeglang in Banten, located along the Sunda Strait near Anak Krakatau, where volcanic activity began the previous week. However, Wijayanto stated that there were no aftershocks reported as of 5 am. Meanwhile, KAI Commuter announced on its social media that its services have been suspended temporarily for a thorough inspection of the rail foundations.

According to the company, service on the Bogor, Cikarang, Rangkasbitung, and Tanjung Priok routes will resume after the inspection is completed at 5:26 am, followed by the Tangerang route at 5:45 am.
