Gempa bermagnitud 6.5 dekat Jakarta, gegaran dirasai di Jawa, Sumatera

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.5 struck near Jakarta on Saturday morning, causing tremors to be felt in Indonesia, Java, and Sumatera. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported the quake occurred at 4:23 AM local time near the Java Sea, 69 kilometers east of the Seribu Islands. The earthquake's epicenter was 368 kilometers deep.

According to Wijayanto, the head of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), this quake was caused by intraslab activity. A tsunami risk assessment did not indicate any danger. The strongest shaking occurred in Banten and West Java, as well as Tanggamus in southern Sumatera. Tremors were felt strongly enough to rattle windows in homes and cause doors to rattle, particularly in Tanjung Priok, Jakarta, and several other areas.

However, the shaking was less intense in areas such as Yogyakarta, Malang in Java, and Padang, Mentawai Islands in Sumatera. Areas reporting the strongest shaking included Pandeglang in Banten, located along the Sunda Strait near Anak Krakatau, where volcanic activity began last week. However, Wijayanto stated that there were no aftershocks reported as of 5 AM Saturday.

Meanwhile, KAI Commuter announced that its services would be temporarily suspended for a thorough examination of the train tracks. According to the company, services on the Bogor, Cikarang, Rangkasbitung, and Tanjung Priok routes resumed at 5:26 AM, followed by Tangerang at 5:45 AM.
