Ganeshotsav 2026: Dharavi Mandal To Bring 7-8-Ft Replacement Idol On Sunday After 15-Ft Ganesh Idol Collapses In Kurla

Mumbai, September 12, 2026 - Following a mishap where a 15-foot Ganesh idol fell during its procession in Kurla West, the Om Shakti Welfare Foundation Mandal from Prem Nagar, Dharavi, has announced plans to bring a replacement idol. The new idol, estimated to be seven to eight feet tall, will be sourced from Ramabai Ambedkar Nagar in Ghatkopar East.

The replacement idol will be introduced on Sunday, September 13, during a grand procession in Dharavi, according to Mandal President Mani Kandan. The original idol was en route to Dharavi when it toppled over due to a pothole near a speed breaker at Sheetal Talao, causing minor injuries to a bystander, Santosh Jaiswal, who was treated at Bhabha Hospital.

The mandal, aided by local police and administration, submerged the damaged idol in Sheetal Talao, adhering to religious customs while preserving a peaceful environment. With only a few days remaining until the festival, and the production of a 15-foot idol beyond immediate possibilities, the organizers turned to an alternative, finding the smaller idol in Ghatkopar East.

They had already built a 25-foot pandal for the original idol, which will remain unchanged despite the new replacement idol's installation. The event organizers remain committed to proceeding with the celebrations, promising a traditional procession for the new idol, accompanied by music and festivities.
