Four ECP officers promoted, 65 shuffled

Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has recently made promotional decisions, granting four officers promotions from BS-19 to BS-20, while simultaneously reshuffling 65 officers across various ranks. These promotions took effect immediately, pending further orders. A recent ECP notification outlines the changes, with Khurshid Alam being promoted from Director to the newly created position of Additional Director General to the CEC, rising from BS-19 to BS-20.

Fazal Hakeem has been elevated from Regional Election Commissioner Peshawar to the Additional Director General (Elections II) position at the ECP Secretariat. Abdullah has progressed from Director (Elections) in the Provincial Election Commission of Balochistan to the Joint Provincial Election Commissioner (Elections) role in the same commission.

Nazar Abbas, despite his official position remaining unchanged, has been promoted from BS-19 to BS-20, and also assumes the role of the ECP's spokesman. The newly promoted officers will serve a one-year probationary period, which can be extended. Section 6 of the Civil Servants Act, 1973, and Rule 21(1) of the Civil Servants (Appointment, Promotion and Transfer) Rules, 1973, stipulate that initial appointments, promotions, or transfers are probationary for a year.

Rule 21(2) allows for the probation period to be shortened with "good and sufficient reasons," and extended for up to one additional year if deemed necessary. Meanwhile, the ECP has also reorganized 65 officers through transfers and postings throughout the country. These reshuffled officers include one at BS-20 and BS-19, nine at BS-18, and 54 at BS-17.
