Fires reported at manufacturing sites in Russia following Ukrainian drone strikes

On September 12, Ukrainian forces allegedly targeted industrial facilities in Russian cities Tolyatti and Taganrog, according to Telegram media channels. Reports indicate Ukrainian long-range drones struck a rubber manufacturing plant in Tolyatti, Samara Oblast, also known as Russia's "Motown." Footage shared by residents allegedly shows a building on fire and smoke billowing from the site.

Another drone attack reportedly damaged a residential building in Tolyatti. Previously, Ukraine's military confirmed an attack on a rubber factory in Tolyatti on June 12, noting that the products were used in the production of solid rocket fuel for tactical and ballistic missiles. In Taganrog, located on the Sea of Azov, resident footage showed large fires, believed to be originating from an airfield near the city, with smoke rising into the sky.

NASA's FIRMS system detected multiple fires burning in the area. As of publication, the Kyiv Independent has yet to independently verify these reports or the extent of the damage. Ukraine's military has not yet commented on the reported attacks. The strikes are part of Ukraine's ongoing drone campaign against Russian manufacturing plants, aiming to disrupt industries supplying the nation's military.

On September 9, Ukraine's Special Operations Forces conducted their most significant strike into Russia yet, targeting a natural gas facility 3,200 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. President Volodymyr Zelensky warned airlines, insurers, and foreign governments that Russian airspace will effectively be closed due to Ukrainian drone activity.
