Escape to Caleb’s Hideout, a dietitian designed garden café in OUG, for indulgent yet guilt-free cakes & coffee

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 12 — In the densest part of OUG, tucked away off Old Klang Road, a true hidden gem awaits. A second floor café, Caleb’s Hideout, is a flora-filled sanctuary with natural light filtering through the original skylight on the roof. Designed by dietitian Caleb Mok, it feels like a garden home in the sky, welcoming both friends and strangers alike.

Caleb, a certified dietitian, has crafted this personal space to provide a haven for the health-conscious and a retreat for those seeking respite from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The café aims to create a haven for nutritious food and drinks without being too heavy or unapproachable.

Upon entering, one is greeted by pots of pottery and plants, imbuing the space with a calming atmosphere. The menu features rotating sweet treats, all baked by Caleb himself. Among these options is a tofu brownie cheesecake with Biscoff biscuits, a tofu oat milk chocolate mousse cake, and a rose water infused watermelon cake with strawberries and pistachios.

Caleb sources his coffee from small food artisans, specifically from KL-based Emberwood Coffee Roasters, using a medium roast Ember house blend of Brazil, Colombia, and Guatemala.

The coffee is paired with a Sunlit Jasmine, a refreshing citrus-infused tea chilled, lightly sweetened with honey, and brightened with the soft fragrance of yuzu. The café also boasts fresh flower arrangements, such as roses and carnations, and whimsical bouquets like dried baby’s breath. The pièce de résistance is the Ficus lyrata, or fiddle-leaf fig, with its paddle-like foliage and thin, dark stems, adding a touch of nature and reminding patrons of the café's home-like atmosphere.

Caleb’s Hideout is a manifestation of Caleb's dream to provide a cozy café with nutritious options. The café is open Friday and Sunday from 9am–6pm, Saturday from 9am–10pm, and closed Monday through Thursday.
