During an appearance on the Joe Rogan podcast, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk shared his insights on the challenges of scaling up manufacturing from a prototype to a finished product. In the case of his Cybertruck, Musk noted that the process proved far more difficult than anticipated. Unveiled in November 2019, the vehicle's market release was expected soon after, but significant delays occurred.

Musk attributed the problems to the need for consistency and establishing a complex supply chain for materials, components, and resources. He described the task as "thousands of times harder" than building the initial prototype, emphasizing the economic challenges of making the production cost recoverable for customers. This experience echoes Musk's frequent use of the term "production hell," particularly during a manufacturing crisis between 2017 and 2018 when the Tesla production line became bogged down by an automated robotic network, slowing down the process and delaying vehicle deliveries.
