Missouri coach Eli Drinkwitz expressed his discontent with Kansas' Civil War-themed hype video prior to the "Border War" college football rivalry game on Friday. The Tigers emerged victorious, defeating the Jayhawks with a score of 38-21 in Lawrence. Drinkwitz found the video's turn to be "uncalled for," emphasizing that it was inappropriate given the current circumstances.

Kansas had released the controversial video on Thursday, urging fans to recognize the rivalry's roots in deeper issues beyond merely school pride. The video garnered over 35 million views on X/Twitter as of Saturday morning. Despite the deep historical context, Drinkwitz insisted that the game was simply about two teams playing football.

He highlighted the need for unity, especially during a time when people should be coming together. Missouri secured the decisive touchdown just over two minutes into the fourth quarter, leading by 10 points late in the game. Drinkwitz expressed embarrassment for the Kansas team, and later on X, he labeled their actions as "weird."

Kansas coach Lance Leipold dismissed Drinkwitz's criticism, stating that the rivalry brings excitement to college football and that the schools have a good relationship overall.
