Continuous ASUU strike in Ondo varsities shameful, unacceptable – NANS

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has condemned the indefinite shutdown of universities in Ondo State, labeling it a disgrace and an unacceptable situation. In a recent statement, NANS expressed their discontent and called for immediate action to address the ongoing strikes by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The student body has granted clearance to NANS Joint Campus Committees in Ondo, Niger, Nasarawa, and other states currently affected by ASUU strikes to initiate large-scale mobilization for a "mother of all protests" in their respective regions. NANS President Afeez Akinteye emphasized that the continuous strikes are a shame and have become intolerable for Nigerian students, who have endured enough disruption to their academic calendars and uncertain futures.

In response to the situation, NANS vowed to gather students from all affected states for demonstrations and has relocated its leadership to university campuses starting next week. The strike, initiated by ASUU members at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko; University of Medical Sciences, Ondo; and Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa, stems from unpaid salaries and the failure to implement the FG-ASUU 2025 agreement by the Ondo State government.
