‘Committed party man’, PDP mourns Bamanga Tukur

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has mourned the passing of its former National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, describing him as a dedicated party member. Both factions within the party, backed by Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike and the Interim National Working Committee led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, lamented the loss of the esteemed elder statesman.

Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, the National Publicity Secretary of the Wike-backed PDP, hailed Tukur as a towering figure whose impressive career in public service spanned several decades.

Beyond his contributions to public administration, Tukur also made significant impacts in the private sector and on the international stage. He served as President of the Africa Business Roundtable and Chairman of the NEPAD Business Group, among other roles. Elected as the PDP's National Chairman in 2012, he led the party until his resignation in January 2014.

As a committed party member and leader, Tukur played crucial roles in the development and affairs of the party during a pivotal period in its political history and the nation's landscape.

Comrade Ini Ememobong, the National Publicity Secretary of the Turaki-led faction of the PDP, expressed deep sorrow at the news of Tukur's demise, highlighting his prominent roles in shaping policies and projects across various sectors of the Nigerian economy, particularly in ports administration, international trade, and industries. Tukur's political career was as rich as his professional record, having served as Governor of the old Gongola State and held several other high-ranking political and public offices.

Tukur's death at the age of 90 was met with deep sadness from members of the party in Nigeria and the diaspora. Reflecting on their last interaction, Tanimu Turaki emphasized his unwavering belief in the PDP as the truly national party capable of addressing Nigeria's challenges and charged Kabiru Turaki, SAN, to continue leading the party.
