City Council members come to blows over alleged misuse of plots in Karachi

A heated dispute erupted at the Karachi City Council on Friday over the alleged misuse of two plots owned by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC). Mayor Murtaza Wahab claimed the KMC had granted plots No. 503 and 504 to Al-Khidmat for "welfare purposes", but the land was later used to build Idara Noor-i-Haq, the headquarters of the Jamaat-i-Islami party.

Opposition leader Saifuddin Advocate disputed this assertion, claiming he possessed official records contradicting the mayor's claim. The exchange quickly turned physical as opposition members accused the mayor of making false statements and members from both sides confronted each other, resulting in at least one scuffle where PPP City Council member Hayat Khan was reportedly assaulted.

The mayor briefly left the chair before returning and the meeting resumed, though tensions remained evident. The Council also passed resolutions on various issues, including a Rs948.15 million project for a flyover at Garden Intersection on Nishtar Road and approval for a Rs36 million grant to complete Phase-I of the Spencer Eye Hospital.
