Chinese President Xi Jinping Heads To India For BRICS Summit, Set For Bilateral Meeting With PM Narendra Modi

Chinese President Xi Jinping departed Beijing on Saturday for the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, receiving an invitation from India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to Xinhua, Xi's delegation comprises Cai Qi, a member of the CPC's Standing Committee and director of the General Office, and Wang Yi, a CPC Politburo member and Foreign Minister.

Prime Minister Modi and Xi are anticipated to hold a bilateral meeting during the summit. The BRICS platform has emerged as a crucial forum for solidarity and cooperation among emerging markets and developing nations, with Xi set to attend the event from Saturday through Sunday.

This visit comes amid ongoing efforts to stabilize China-India relations, following the 2020 Galwan clashes. India has consistently emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and stability along their disputed borders for sustained bilateral development. Prime Minister Modi and Xi exchanged brief greetings during the recent Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Bishkek.

They are now expected to conduct in-depth discussions on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in New Delhi this weekend. Chinese Ambassador to India Xu Feihong confirmed that China and India are coordinating for the bilateral meeting between Xi and PM Modi, and noted that China will collaborate with India to execute the strategic guidance provided by the two leaders.
