Analysts suggest Bersatu risks losing influence if it remains within the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition. Political observers believe Bersatu cannot continue to determine its future while tied to PN due to the risk of weakening its political standing and support base at the grassroots level. Asrul Sani from Asia Group stated that Bersatu took too long to accept the reality that PN no longer offers the powerful political future it desires.

PAS has already decided to sever ties with Bersatu, while Wawasan effectively usurped the role of the preferred Malay national partner party for the Islamic party. Bersatu should leave PN and build its future outside that coalition. Staying in PN risks more defections, weakening grassroots morale, and ongoing uncertainty surrounding constituency nominations and election cooperation, while PAS and Wawasan take over its political space.

He discussed the action taken by the Bersatu Kangar Committee, including the leadership of Pemuda and Wanita and 90 branch chairmen leaving the party to join Wawasan. This followed just one day after Bersatu Deputy President Ramzi Udi, along with 19 other party leaders, left the party due to dissatisfaction with his leadership. Asrul said that the longer Muhyiddin Yassin keeps PN tied to Bersatu, the more clearly it appears to be marginalized and unable to adapt to changing political landscapes.

Clearly, leaving PN would cause Bersatu to lose the association of that coalition, its access to the powerful PAS grassroots, and face a multitude of issues without clear coalition partners. However, he added, if Bersatu chooses to leave PN, it has the potential to redefine its identity, explore new cooperation, and focus on more realistic regions for victory.

The grassroots have taken years to build and cannot be established hastily before elections. Leaving PN carries a significant risk, but the long-term risk is irrelevance in terms of politics. What is Muhyiddin's strategy? Asrul said Muhyiddin may have some hidden strategies that could challenge PAS's election plan, but PN should not be the focus of Bersatu's strategy.

Using this advantage to appease PAS or Wawasan only wastes time and resources without building a powerful future political platform for his party. Clearly, Bersatu cannot build its future by trying to compete with PAS or Umno on Malay affairs, as both parties have stronger roots and clearer identities, while Bersatu can only go as far as to limit its appeal to other groups.

Muhyiddin needs to present a convincing vision for the nation, including the economy, administration, and Malaysia's future, he said, adding that leaving PN without a broader strategy would only change Bersatu's position without addressing the fundamental issues of its identity and purpose. Azmi Hassan from Nusantara Academy suggested Muhyiddin still has unfinished business, so Bersatu is still with PN.

He said Muhyiddin may try to show that he still determines the direction of Bersatu and PN, even if it risks damaging the coalition. PAS's current actions indicate that the party no longer considers Bersatu part of PN, he said, referring to Bersatu being excluded from constituency discussion between PN and Barisan Nasional for PRN Melaka, and the party's boycott of PN discussion sessions for constituency discussions.

Bersatu competed using its own logo and lost all 22 seats in PRN Negeri Sembilan, while PN won seven of 36 seats, and BN won 18 seats, with the two factions then forming the state government. Azmi said the PRN Negeri Sembilan result showed the strong influence of PN among voters, which makes it difficult for Bersatu to leave the coalition.
