BECE: ‘I’m happy we’re seeing our children’s true results because cheating is curtailed’ – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama expressed his satisfaction over the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results, which provide a more accurate reflection of students' academic abilities due to a crackdown on examination malpractice. He highlighted the implementation of stronger invigilation measures, which have significantly reduced instances where candidates received unauthorized assistance during the exams.

This development, according to Mahama, is enabling the true level of preparedness of students to be assessed as they transition to the next stage of their education.

During a citizens' engagement at the University of Business and Integrated Development Studies in the Upper West Region on Saturday, September 12, Mahama expressed pride in observing students' authentic results. He noted that in the past, some headteachers and officials had colluded to facilitate cheating, resulting in grades that did not accurately represent students' true capabilities.

These practices often allowed students to advance academically without mastering the foundational skills necessary for higher-level education.

Mahama emphasized that the improved invigilation and diminished instances of mass cheating in exams are yielding better results in subjects such as Mathematics and Social Studies. However, he acknowledged that a slight decline in Social Studies performance is currently under investigation by the government.
