Attackers of Peter Obi’s convoy not Benue youths – Onjeh

Daniel Onjeh, the NDC senatorial hopeful for Benue South, has refuted allegations that Benue youths attacked Peter Obi's convoy during his humanitarian visit to Yelwata. Onjeh, who was present during the incident, stated that the attackers were predominantly middle-aged men, not young people. Obi received over 95,000 votes in Benue State in the 2023 election, while the APC and PDP candidates received around 40,000 votes each.

Onjeh emphasized that Obi's support in Benue is genuine and cannot be undermined by violence. He rejected the idea that the attackers spoke for all Benue youths and urged the public not to misinterpret the actions of a few individuals as representative of the state's youth demographic. Onjeh also criticized the location of the barricade, which hindered Obi's access to the wider population in Makurdi.

He called for an end to political violence and emphasized that the appropriate response to a candidate one does not support is to vote, not to resort to violence. Onjeh maintained that Benue youths would have another chance to express their political preferences during the 2027 elections.
