Arsenal’s brilliance at both ends helps overcome Sunderland

Arsenal secured a perfect start to their season with a victory over Sunderland, thanks to two brilliant performances from David Raya and Bruno Guimaraes. The Gunners' defender Ezri Konsa received a penalty on 55 minutes for pulling down Dan Ballard, and goalkeeper Raya showcased his skills by saving Enzo le Fee's penalty low to his left.

The crucial moment arrived 121 seconds later when substitute Guimaraes, brought on for halftime, curled a goal into the top corner from 20 yards out, marking the summer signing's first Arsenal goal and adding significance as it came against Sunderland, his former club Newcastle United's arch-rivals.

The win was sealed in the final seconds of the match when Bukayo Saka converted a penalty awarded after being fouled by Reinildo Mandava, who was later sent off with a second yellow card. Mikel Arteta's men extended their 100% start to the season with six wins from six across all competitions, including four Premier League victories, putting them at the top of the table.

Despite dominating possession with 66% of the ball in the first half, Arsenal faced a disciplined Sunderland side led by Regis le Bris. The visitors had limited chances, including a Kai Havertz effort that soared over from six yards and a volley that was tipped over by home goalkeeper Robin Roefs. Arsenal also had a chance when Ballard headed off the line to deny Havertz, while Jurrien Timber's header was disallowed for offside.

Sunderland remains at 14th place in the league standings with four points from their first four league games.
