Abu Dhabi Equestrian and Turf Club racing towards high-class expansion

For 50 years, the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club has been a cornerstone of horse racing in the UAE, founded by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The club, which began as a riding club and showcased Arabian horses, doesn't hold its first race until 1991. In 2025, the club is marking its milestone with a major redevelopment, the Al Khail Square project, spearheaded by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister.

The master plan aims to integrate equestrian facilities, upscale housing, modern healthcare, commercial spaces, and a new world-class members club into one seamless urban experience. The redevelopment, which will include pedestrian walkways and open green space, will turn Al Khail Square into a top urban destination, complementing the club's rich heritage.

While Dubai's Meydan Racecourse hosts the prestigious Dubai World Cup, Abu Dhabi's Gold Cup will compete alongside, attracting international thoroughbred competitors. The distinction between the two lies in the horses: Meydan focuses on thoroughbred racehorses, while Abu Dhabi Turf Club emphasizes purebred Arabian and thoroughbred horses.

With a focus on the purebred Arabian tradition, the Turf Club aims to strengthen the UAE's racing sector and position it as a global hub for equestrian sports. The Al Khail Square project, scheduled to launch in December 2025, will be a key part of this vision, offering a blend of equestrian excellence and modern lifestyle living.
