Young Pakistani Fast Bowler Joins Unwanted List on Test Debut

Young Pakistani fast bowler Razaullah made his Test debut against England at Edgbaston and took four wickets for 148 runs in the first innings. The 21-year-old right-arm pacer bowled 23 overs, conceding runs at an economy rate of 6.43, which was the second-best among Pakistan bowlers who took at least 20 overs on their Test debut.

Razaullah's economy rate was only second to Zahid Mahmood, who allowed 7.3 runs per over on his Test debut against England in 2022. His performance was overshadowed by expensive figures, but he showed promise with his pace and movement, dismissing England captain Joe Root early in the game. Razaullah, who had previously played only eight first-class matches for Peshawar Region, had taken 30 wickets at an economy rate of 3.30 before his Test debut, including three five-wicket hauls and one four-wicket haul.

His immediate impact was evident as he trapped England opener Emilio Gay for 60 runs, followed by dismissing another opener. Despite his early success, Pakistan suffered a heavy defeat to England, finishing the first innings at 133 all out, and subsequently lost the match by 268 runs.
