WhatsApp rolling out redesigned iPad interface with Mac-like sidebar

WhatsApp has begun rolling out a redesigned iPad interface, incorporating a sidebar reminiscent of Mac computers. This change is part of the company's adaptation of its iOS app to the visual overhaul known as Liquid Glass. The sidebar, initially introduced through a limited beta test in June, will replace the bottom tab bar that has been present on iPad for some time.

Upon activation, the sidebar displays categories such as Chats, Updates, Communities, Calls, Meta AI, and other sections of the app. Users can easily hide the sidebar to allocate more screen space to the chat list and conversation view. The sidebar's size on an iPad screen typically poses no issue, as there is ample room for all elements.

However, some users may prefer a more spacious conversation interface, which is achieved by hiding the sidebar. When the sidebar is hidden, WhatsApp expands the chat list and conversation to fill the screen more evenly. While the new interface is currently available to select beta testers via TestFlight, it is gradually making its way to users with the regular App Store version.

This interface adjustment aims to provide a more tablet-friendly layout for iPad users, enhancing their overall experience.
