We can’t fix every road at once – Mahama defends multi-phased ‘Big Push’ agenda

President John Dramani Mahama has assured Ghanaians that quality, long-lasting roads will be built through his Big Push infrastructure program, but the ambitious project must be carried out in stages due to budget limitations. Upon inspecting construction on the Wa-Han-Tumu-Navrongo road project during his #ResettingGhana tour of the Upper West Region, Mahama acknowledged the public's strong desire for improved roads and appealed for patience as the work progresses.

"Although everyone wishes all roads could be built simultaneously, our budget constraints prevent us from doing so," Mahama said. He explained that government is prioritizing major arterial corridors and trunk roads to establish a robust national road network before extending to feeder roads that connect to the main network. Mahama assured that after completing the trunk roads, the government will focus on extending feeder roads into surrounding communities and towns.

He expressed satisfaction with the progress on the strategic Wa-Han-Tumu-Navrongo corridor, a vital economic link between the Upper West and Upper East Regions, and stated that the road is on track to be commissioned next year. The president is confident that the road will be of superior quality, utilizing a full asphalt overlay rather than merely double surface dressing from Wa to Bolgatanga.

This approach will ensure the road's durability for at least the next two decades, requiring only minimal maintenance.
