WapiPay partners with JN Money to expand Jamaica-Africa payments

The partnership comes after Kenya opened its first resident High Commission in Kingston in July. Kenya’s High Commissioner to Jamaica, Mwenda Karisa, said the deal could support closer economic ties between the two countries.

Nairobi, Kenya – Kenyan fintech firm WapiPay has formed a collaboration with Jamaica’s JN Money Services to streamline money transfers between Africa and Jamaica. This partnership follows Kenya's opening of its first resident High Commission in Kingston in July. Kenya’s High Commissioner to Jamaica, Mwenda Karisa, expressed that the agreement could bolster stronger economic ties between the two nations.

Karisa noted, "It is the kind of partnership that we envision when we started the mission here; partnerships not just in fintech but in many other areas of collaboration that will strengthen the bilateral relations between Jamaica and Kenya."

WapiPay co-founder Paul Ndichu stated the partnership would enable businesses and individuals in Africa to access opportunities in other markets. Edward Ndichu, also a co-founder, added that the company is striving to make cross-border payments quicker and more affordable, with a target of completing transactions in under 30 seconds.

Under the agreement, which received the nod from the Bank of Jamaica, JN Money will be responsible for payouts for WapiPay users in Jamaica. The service will enable users to transfer funds through the WapiPay app for collection at over 90 JN Money locations or deposit it directly into recipients' bank accounts. The firms anticipate completing the rollout by December 2026.
