The ban's significance is also downplayed by the UK government, as it avoids any association with the broader BDS movement.

The government justifies the measures by claiming the settlements pose a threat to a two-state solution, but this argument is considered dishonest. The UK's focus on settlement trade, while ignoring Israel's genocidal actions in Gaza, suggests a selective approach to addressing the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The government's strategy appears to be more about avoiding criticism and maintaining diplomatic relations than taking decisive action against Israel's violations of international law.
