Pune's city government has cleared encroachments at the Mandai flower market ahead of the Ganeshotsav festival. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) conducted a surprise inspection on Friday, directing traders to remove parts of stalls that extend into public space. This action comes as the festival period is seen as a major business opportunity for flower sellers.

However, the removal of stalls has raised concerns among traders about managing additional stock and stall arrangements during the peak season. Traders explained that setting up and arranging the stall takes around 6 to 8 hours, and their overall preparation can cost between ₹20,000 to ₹30,000. They emphasized the importance of clearly defining the permitted area to avoid repeated dismantling and rebuilding.

The PMC stated that while traders have the right to sell, they must comply with all regulations. A civic officer added that action would be taken against those who do not follow the rules, particularly as a huge crowd is expected for shopping in the coming days.
