Vance: MAGA's millennial messenger for the midterms

Support for President Trump is waning among millennials and Gen Zers, particularly young men, ahead of the midterms. Vice President Kamala Harris is tasked with re-engaging this demographic. At the GOP's two-day convention, Harris directly appealed to families with young children, emphasizing the "birthright" of U.S. citizens and painting Democrats as "anti-American, anti-family crazies."

Harris argued that America belongs to those who love it, not those who hate it. Despite Republicans' declining popularity across all age groups, young millennials and male voters are especially crucial to Trump's 2024 campaign, as they were key to his 2024 victory. Harris highlighted his millennial status by noting that he is now the father of four young children.

He also referenced the one-year anniversary of the assassination of his friend and MAGA activist Charlie Kirk, who was killed at age 31. Harris contrasted Kirk's message with the views of a Michigan Democratic candidate who posted anti-family sentiments. She also criticized Democratic Texas Senate candidate James Talarico for his focus on transgender issues.

The vice president dismissed a demonstrator waving a Mexican flag, telling him to "get your ass over there" if he loved Mexico. Earlier in the day, Harris spoke to a private group of Republicans about the administration's efforts to lower prescription drug costs and attacked Democrats' policies. As oil prices rise and mortgage rates increase, the administration's attempts to address these issues have fallen short.

Critics argue that the administration's policies, such as cutting Medicaid, are anti-family. While Democrats claim the administration's actions are harmful to families, the convention focused on Trump and the upcoming November elections rather than the transition of power. Harris is the youngest member of Trump's Cabinet and an appealing figure for young families, making him well-positioned to connect with this demographic.
