Umno recovery hinges on leaders maintaining momentum, says Hishammuddin

KUALA LUMPUR: The political revival of Umno hinges on whether its leaders at every level can sustain the momentum and implement the message from party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, according to former Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein. Hishammuddin noted that the party's experience over the last eight years demonstrated the cyclical nature of politics, where success and failure alternate.

He emphasized that the recent speech by Zahid, which highlighted the party's journey during the past eight years, reflected both the highs and lows experienced by Umno and Barisan Nasional. Hishammuddin expressed optimism about Umno's current recovery but stressed that it is crucial for the party's leaders to maintain this momentum through honesty, courage, consistency, and perseverance.

He praised Zahid's speech as one of the best presidential addresses he had ever heard and hoped it would guide Umno towards a positive direction. Meanwhile, former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin, one of the 6,252 members readmitted under the Rumah Bangsa initiative, viewed Zahid's speech as a clear indication that Umno and BN were prepared to form the next government.
