Umno delegate calls for global network to fight brain drain

The Overseas Umno Club has proposed the formation of a global talent network to address the issue of brain drain, according to Amir Ikram Mohd Fadil, the club's delegate in the UK. Fadil emphasized that highly skilled Malaysians in various fields, such as engineering, technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and professional sectors, are currently working abroad.

Speaking at the Umno general assembly, Fadil highlighted the importance of ensuring that these talented individuals have a way to return to Malaysia and contribute to national development.

Fadil argued that instead of fearing talent migration, Malaysia should adopt a mindset of brain gain and brain circulation. This approach involves Malaysians going global while still contributing to their homeland. He proposed that the Overseas Umno Club should be empowered to act as a community emergency response team, connecting Malaysian embassies with local communities during emergencies.

Fadil stressed the need to empower the Malaysian community abroad, especially in terms of security, given the potential for geopolitical uncertainties, natural disasters, flight disruptions, and food supply issues. He noted that Australia hosts over 19,000 Malaysian students, followed by the UK with more than 12,000, and Egypt with nearly 7,000.
