Ukrainian drone strikes degrade Russian oil refining industry – IEA

A Ukrainian ground robot, typically used to transport ammunition and supplies to the front lines, carried a different load during a recent mission: wounded civilians. The 20th K-2 Unmanned Systems Brigade sent the unmanned vehicle to evacuate the injured following a Russian FPV drone attack on their home. The soldiers accompanying the robot walked the entire route to shield the civilians from further attacks.

In a battlefield where Russian FPV drones constantly target anything that moves, Ukraine has entrusted its ground robots with high-risk tasks that put soldiers in harm's way, such as carrying ammunition, clearing mines, and evacuating the wounded. Since the beginning of 2026, the brigade has executed over 100,000 robot missions, and President Zelenskyy has urged to contract at least 50,000 more of these machines.

When an FPV drone struck a Ukrainian civilian house, leaving the wounded with nowhere safe to run, Ukrainian troops swiftly dispatched a ground robot to rescue them without risking any human lives. The brigade emphasized that their mission is not about carrying cargo, but about saving people. The robot did not operate alone; K-2 soldiers escorted the vehicle throughout its entire path to protect the wounded from potential drone attacks.

Although Ukraine's evacuation robots have also become targets, with Russian forces striking anything that moves in a drone kill zone extending dozens of kilometers from the front lines, a platoon commander revealed that their robots survive fewer missions than before. Commander Tetiana Chornovov stressed the need for creating separate, staffed evacuation units within brigades, each equipped with an autonomous team and specialized transport, as Ukraine still lacks a proper system for evacuating its wounded from the battlefield.
