Uba Sani Meets ASUU’s Demand, Urges Lecturers To End Strike

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has endorsed the implementation of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU Salary Agreement, effective October 2026, for academic staff at Kaduna State University (KASU). The decision follows a report and recommendations from the nine-member Government-KASU/ASUU Negotiation Committee, established by Governor Sani to address the union's concerns.

The approved package incorporates the 2025 FGN-ASUU Agreement, revised CONUASS, Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA), and other salary adjustments and allowances.

The KASU branch of ASUU had initiated a two-week warning strike, but the government has deployed a committee headed by Dr AbdulKadir Muazu Meyere to negotiate. Despite the government's efforts, the ASUU branch at KASU went on an indefinite strike on Wednesday. Governor Sani's administration has allocated at least 25 percent of the Kaduna State annual budget to education, built and renovated 3,267 classrooms, provided 1,194 toilets and 90 boreholes, and supplied 57,777 learners' and teachers' furniture, among other educational improvements.

Vice Chancellor of KASU, Prof Abdullahi Ibrahim Musa, emphasized that the government's approval signals a commitment to addressing long-standing welfare issues for both academic and non-academic staff. The university has already released over ₦800 million in withheld salaries and over ₦200 million in overhead funding for daily operations in 2026.

Dr Ibrahim Umar, Chairman of KASU Governing Council, highlighted the administration's efforts to tackle the out-of-school children challenge, reducing the number from over 500,000 in 2023 to more than 300,000 currently in education.
