Trevino, Davis voted Happy State Bank High School Athletes of the Week

Jacob Trevino of Tulia's football team has been chosen as the Happy State Bank Boys High School Athlete of the Week for the week of August 31st to September 6th. In a victory against River Road, Trevino had an impressive performance, completing 9 out of 11 passes for 285 yards and scoring four touchdowns. He also contributed significantly with 74 yards on the ground and three additional touchdowns.

Trevino received a substantial 57.7% of the total votes, which amounted to 3,043 votes out of 5,277 votes cast for the Athlete of the Week award.

Kinley Davis, a standout from Amarillo High's girls cross country team, was recognized as the Happy State Bank Girls High School Athlete of the Week for the same week. Davis led her team to a win at the Amarillo ISD City Cross Country Meet with an impressive time of 19 minutes, 1.2 seconds. Her outstanding performance earned her 12.7% of the total votes, amounting to 667 votes out of the 5,277 votes cast.

The rule that an athlete can only be named Athlete of the Week once per season, per sport, and athletes from one school cannot win more than three consecutive weeks was strictly adhered to. Nominations for this award had to be submitted by 5 p.m. each Saturday, with all relevant information and statistics included in the submission via email to sports@amarillo.com.

Voting ran through Thursday of each week, with the final results being announced on Friday. The top finishers for the week were listed: Jacob Trevino from Tulia football with 3,043 votes, Kinley Davis from Amarillo High girls cross country with 667 votes, and Kaitlin Lucas from Highland Park volleyball with 656 votes.
