Caley's priorities include more precise pre-snap execution and a quicker tempo to provide quarterback CJ Stroud with more time to react to defensive strategies. The Texans will kick off their regular season Sunday against the Buffalo Bills at Reliant Stadium, marking their first chance to demonstrate improvement following the inconsistencies of last season.

ESPN's DJ Bien-Aime relayed Caley's message via X, highlighting the need to "eliminate the pre-snap BS" and to get out of the huddle more swiftly to avoid "fighting against the clock." This emphasis on tempo addresses a recurring issue Houston faced last season, where they were ranked last in scoring through the first three weeks at 12.7 points per game.

Caley's strategy goes beyond merely avoiding penalties; it aims to give Stroud more time at the line of scrimmage to assess defensive formations and implement adjustments. The team also seeks a more consistent performance from Stroud, who threw four interceptions in the first half of Houston's AFC Divisional Round loss to the New England Patriots on January 18.

Head coach DeMeco Ryans has previously highlighted the importance of snapping the ball before the play clock expires as an area in need of improvement. With this being the Texans' first opportunity to showcase progress since Caley's second season as offensive coordinator, Houston's Week 1 game against the Bills will serve as a critical test for his methods.
