Telecoms Subscribers Hits 195M as MTN Crosses 100 Million Milestone

In July 2026, Nigeria's active mobile subscriptions across networks reached a significant milestone of 195,108,814, according to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). The teledensity stood at an impressive 90 percent. MTN, the leading telecoms company, recorded an impressive 100,859,587 subscribers as of July 2026, marking the first telecoms company to achieve the 100 million subscriber milestone since the introduction of GSM services in Nigeria in 2001.

MTN holds a dominant market share of 51.76 percent, followed by Airtel with 66,760,297 subscribers and a market share of 34.26 percent. Globacom recorded 23,628,966 subscribers, accounting for 12.13 percent of the market, while T2 had 3,613,811 subscribers, with a market share of 1.85 percent.

The NCC statistics revealed a monthly increase in subscriber numbers. As of June 2026, the total subscriber count across networks was 192,232,120. However, this figure rose to 195,108,814 by July 2026, showcasing the growing popularity of mobile services in the country. MTN alone had 98,643,681 subscribers in June, capturing 51.38 percent of the market.

Airtel followed with 66,121,645 subscribers, making up 34.44 percent of the market. Globacom had 23,682,605 subscribers, representing 12.34 percent, and T2 had 3,538,021 subscribers, which accounted for 1.84 percent.

Gbenga Adebayo, the Chairman of the Association of Licensed Telecoms Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) and spokesperson for telecoms operators in Nigeria, attributed the growth in telecoms subscriptions to stable regulatory policies from the NCC.
