Syrian doctor’s stories at Brazil’s Book Biennial

São Paulo – Syrian doctor Mohamad Feras Al-Lahham is set to unveil his memoir, "A New Beginning – A Story of Perseverance," at the 28th São Paulo International Book Biennial. The 45-year-old's book chronicles his journey since moving to Brazil in 2013, following his family's decision to seek refuge from the conflicts in their homeland.

As a medical graduate from Damascus University, Feras had to rebuild his life and career in his new country. Learning the Portuguese language became his greatest challenge, but he persevered, eventually revalidating his medical degree. Feras had to study, take exams, and even retake his sixth year of medical school to practice as an otolaryngologist in Brazil.

The book is essentially an autobiography, filled with stories of overcoming adversity, patience, resilience, and faith. Feras hopes to inspire others with his story of hope. He currently operates a medical practice and performs surgeries at some of Curitiba's leading hospitals. The book launch took place in August, and Feras felt honored to participate in the São Paulo Book Biennial, a large and spectacular event that aims to showcase the stories of independent Brazilian authors.

"Recomeço" is available for purchase at the booth of Autores Independentes do Brasil (Independent Brazilian Authors) until September 13, the final day of the Biennial. Feras hopes to take "Recomeço" to other events and cities across Brazil in the coming months, expressing his deep gratitude for the country that embraced his family and saved his life.
