Swat women protest killing of girl after assault

On Friday, a large group of women, joined by some men, marched through Madyan to protest the alleged assault and murder of a nine-year-old girl. The girl, who was an orphan, was reportedly assaulted before being shot dead in Madyan on Wednesday. According to Madyan police, she was reportedly taken to a neighboring house by a man named Sultan Mohammad, where she was allegedly assaulted and subsequently killed.

The incident sparked widespread outrage in Swat, with people using social media to demand accountability for the accused. After Friday prayers, the protesters gathered at the main bazaar, chanting slogans against the perceived injustice. They carried placards with various messages and demanded that the police ensure the suspect receives exemplary punishment. Some protesters even demanded the suspect be handed over to them for punishment.

Later, the protesters marched towards the residence of Mian Sharafat Ali, the Madyan MPA, calling for strict punishment for the accused. The protest highlighted growing concerns among residents, especially women, about the safety and security of children in the area.

Meanwhile, in the Chinocham locality of Kabal tehsil, a man named Bakht Karam killed his father, Adnan, following a family dispute. Adnan allegedly opened fire on his father during the argument, killing him on the spot, and then shot himself dead. Police reached the scene, completed the necessary legal formalities, and transferred the bodies to Kabal Hospital.

The bodies were later handed over to their heirs, and funeral prayers were offered for both father and son after Maghrib prayers. They were then buried in the local graveyard.
