Shauna Green, Illinois, agrees on contract extension

Illinois women's basketball head coach Shauna Green and the university have reached an agreement on an amended version of her current contract, according to a statement from Illinois Director of Athletics Josh Whitman. The coach's existing deal was set to conclude on June 30, 2032, but the new arrangement could extend it through June 30, 2036, contingent upon the team's performance. The proposed extension awaits approval from the University of Illinois Board of Trustees, scheduled for a vote on September 17.

Green, who assumed her role ahead of the 2022-23 season after transferring from Dayton, has made significant strides in transforming the program. Over four years, she has guided Illinois to 85 wins, four consecutive March Madness appearances, and their first-ever postseason championship in the program's history, clinching the 2024 WBIT title.

Beyond these accomplishments, the Illini have also clinched a victory in the NCAA Tournament in back-to-back seasons and secured nine triumphs against Top 25 opponents during her tenure.

In her own words, Green expressed her appreciation, stating, "We have come a long way in four years here, but there is still plenty left to accomplish." With this extended contract, Green will have ample time to build upon this already remarkable period for the Illini. The team concluded the previous season with a 22-12 record, picking up three ranked wins, including a historic top-10 victory over No. 7 Maryland—the first such triumph in over a decade.

The Illini also set new program records in free-throw percentage, fewest turnovers per game, and the longest winning streak while fielding the youngest team in the Big Ten.
