‘Safety of students, staff remains central’ — FG confirms unity colleges resume Monday

The Federal Government has announced that all federal unity colleges across Nigeria will reopen their doors for the start of the new academic term on Monday, September 14, 2026. This decision was announced by the Federal Ministry of Education in a press release dated Friday, September 11, 2026, as confirmed by Director of Press and Public Relations Folasade Boriowo.

Education Minister Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa assured the public that comprehensive plans had been put in place to ensure a secure and smooth return for students and faculty alike.

In his statement, Minister Alausa highlighted that relevant security agencies have been alerted to the resumption plans and will be on high alert to protect the institutions and their surroundings. He emphasized that the well-being of students and staff remains the foremost priority, stating, "The safety and wellbeing of students and staff remain central to the Federal Government’s commitment to providing a secure and conducive environment for teaching and learning."

Minister Alausa appealed to parents and guardians to maintain calmness, adhere to official communications, and prepare their children for the return to their respective colleges on Monday. He directed school administrators to collaborate closely with security forces and other pertinent bodies to ensure a seamless reopening. Alausa further urged everyone involved to contribute to maintaining a peaceful and secure atmosphere within the colleges.

The Ministry of Education pledged to keep a close watch on the situation and to cooperate with other relevant authorities to ensure the resumption proceeds as scheduled.
