Rockies Second Baseman Looking Much Improved This Season

The Colorado Rockies recently acquired infielder Thairo Estrada prior to the 2025 season to serve as their primary second baseman. However, Estrada missed a significant portion of the season due to a right wrist fracture, which left veteran prospect Adael Amador to fill the role.

During the 2025 season, Amador struggled immensely, hitting just .155/.245/.251 in his first 89 at-bats and committing three defensive errors while playing on a league-worst defense. Despite these challenges, the Rockies had no other suitable options to fill the second base position.

Amador's performance improved significantly after Estrada returned, spending time with Triple-A Albuquerque where he flourished, hitting .264/.367/.428 with a .795 OPS, 97 hits, 24 extra-base hits, 11 home runs, 62 RBI, and 11 stolen bases. This development period allowed Amador to mature and refine his skills before being called up to the Major Leagues.

Once called up, Amador immediately made an impact, going 1-for-1 with a three-run home run in his first plate appearance after being inserted into the lineup. He has continued to showcase his improved abilities throughout the season, hitting .344/.417/.688 in 37 plate appearances this year, with 11 hits, two doubles, three home runs, ten RBI, and a solid on-base percentage.

He has demonstrated that with additional development time and the right support, even a struggling prospect can turn their season around to become a valuable contributor to the team.
