Qatar children get hands-on with mangrove science

ExxonMobil Qatar has launched the Mangrove Lab, an initiative that turns scientific research into interactive experiments for children. The programme, developed by ExxonMobil Research Qatar (EMRQ), aims to teach children about the importance of Qatar's mangroves through hands-on learning experiences. Amal al-Malki, safety, security, health and environment adviser at EMRQ, explained that the initiative was born from a study identifying the ideal conditions for mangrove growth in Qatar.

The lab, based on this research, features two experiments and an observation activity designed to make science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) accessible and enjoyable for children. The activities include examining different soil types, exploring acidity and alkalinity, and measuring salinity levels. Al-Malki emphasized that the goal is to inspire children to appreciate and protect Qatar's natural environment.
