Provident Insurance champions early cancer detection, backing prostate and childhood cancer initiatives

Provident Insurance Limited Company has teamed up with the Urology and Nephrology Centre of Excellence at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and the Ghana Association of Urological Surgeons to kick off the 2026 Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. The theme for this month is "Prostate Cancer: Early Detection Saves Lives." This launch is part of a larger month-long effort to provide support for cancer initiatives.

Provident Insurance is also backing Lifeline for Childhood Cancer Ghana (LCCG), two programs united by the belief that early action and compassionate care save lives, regardless of the patient's age. The partnership was attended by healthcare professionals, corporate partners, survivors, and other stakeholders to raise awareness about prostate health.

The Managing Director of Provident Insurance, Kenneth Doh, emphasized the company's commitment to protecting people through their business. He urged men to seek medical advice early to avoid delaying diagnosis due to fear or stigma. Professor J. E. Mensah, Director of the Urology and Nephrology Centre, highlighted that prostate cancer is common in Ghana and that early screening and accessible specialist care are crucial.

Dr Yakubu Seidu Adam, Chief Executive of Korle-Bu, echoed this sentiment, stating that early detection is vital for better outcomes in all forms of cancer, including those affecting children. In line with this, Provident Insurance is supporting the LCCG Learning Hub at Korle-Bu's Department of Child Health, a space where children undergoing cancer treatment can continue their education.

Akua Sarpong, Executive Director of Lifeline for Childhood Cancer Ghana, explained that this initiative will help children with cancer maintain a sense of normalcy and enjoy life's usual opportunities alongside their peers. Together with the annual Breast Cancer Awareness support, these two initiatives reinforce Provident Insurance's dedication to protecting people, families, and communities beyond their core business.
